July 11, 2007 – PITTSBURGH, PA – The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), a leading integrated health care enterprise, and Salar, Inc., a provider of physician-friendly electronic documentation tools, have announced a multi-year agreement to license Salar’s products system wide. Fully integrated with UPMC’s enterprise electronic health record (eRecord), Salar’s TeamNotes™ product line delivers high quality electronic documentation capabilities to UPMC clinicians bringing UPMC closer to achieving a complete electronic medical record.
“Salar’s solution is the only electronic documentation system that our physicians have been able to embrace,” said Juan Ochoa, M.D., director of trauma and surgical critical care at UPMC. “It’s fast, intuitive and has resulted in comprehensive, high quality documentation with noticeable improvements to our bottom line.”
“We’ve found Salar’s TeamNotes not only to be an outstanding physician documentation tool, but also one that provides an opportunity for our hospitals to improve on the traditional dictation/transcription model by reducing costs, eliminating turnaround time and improving physician efficiency,” said Mark Hopkins, Chief Information Officer, academic and community hospitals, at UPMC. “Salar’s integration capabilities with our Cerner platform have proven valuable. Salar continues to provide leading edge products with quality service and support to back them up. We’ve enjoyed rolling up our sleeves together and tackling some of the more difficult information technology issues facing healthcare.”
Salar’s TeamNotes application enables caregivers to document patient care at the point-of-service on wireless tablet PCs or laptop computers, eliminating paper-based documentation and streamlining clinical workflows. Providers may record notes by handwriting, typing, or using voice recognition on electronic forms that mimic the look and feel of their familiar paper forms. Upon signing, the electronic notes can be viewed immediately by the entire care team, as well as by the hospital’s medical records group to ensure completeness and accuracy prior to patient discharge.
“We are thrilled to be working with the forward-thinking and innovative clinicians and IT leadership at UPMC,” said Todd Johnson, President of Salar. “Salar is excited to continue our collaborative effort towards achieving a fully electronic medical record with UPMC.”
Salar’s Compliance+ Clinical Productivity Suite, consisting of four products, TeamNotes™, TeamRelay™, TeamQuery™, and TAP Charge Capture, integrates with existing hospital or practice EMRs to boost clinical productivity and operational efficiency. Admission and progress notes automatically carry forward to the next day’s note, and medications, allergies, and updated test results automatically populate the note. Using one device, providers have access to all the information they need at the point of care ensuring improved patient safety though better communication and continuity among medical staff.
