November 19, 2008 – BALTIMORE, MD and WORCESTER, MA – UMass Memorial Health Care, the largest health care system in Central and Western Massachusetts and the clinical partner of the University of Massachusetts Medical School, announced today that it has purchased a system-wide license for Salar’s clinical productivity suite. Fully integrated with both UMass Memorial’s MEDITECH clinical information system and IDX billing system, Salar’s TeamNotes will deliver high quality clinical documentation, patient handoff and charge capture capabilities to UMass Memorial clinicians, practice administrators and medical records reviewers.

“Salar’s solutions streamline our physician and hospital billing processes and bring us closer to achieving a completely electronic medical record,” stated Jasen W. Gundersen, M.D., M.B.A, Chief of Hospital Medicine at UMass Memorial Medical Center. “Our physicians will document on electronic notes that they themselves design and control.”

“One important reason we selected Salar is because their applications overlay existing HIS platforms. Therefore, we can continue to support documentation and billing across any new clinical system we select in the future without ever having to retrain our physicians and staff on a new system,” stated George Brenckle, Chief Information Officer.

Salar’s TeamNotes™ enables clinicians to document patient care at the point-of-service on laptops, desktops, or tablet PCs, for those physicians who prefer handwriting over typing. Admission and progress notes carry forward to the next day’s note, and medications, allergies and updated test results automatically populate the note. Upon signature, documentation can be viewed immediately by the entire care team, as well as by the hospital’s medical records group to ensure completeness and accuracy prior to patient discharge.

“Given its strong reputation for clinical excellence, we are ecstatic to have UMass Memorial Health Care join our list of prestigious academic medical centers seeking innovative solutions to clinical documentation,” said Todd Johnson, President of Salar, Inc. "Together with UMass Memorial’s outstanding leadership and dedication to the delivery of high quality, we look forward to helping them reach their benchmarks for clinical documentation excellence.”
