Baltimore, Md. – November 6, 2008 – Salar, Inc., a software company whose goal is to improve the clinical documentation process, today announces The George Washington University Hospital has selected Salar, Inc. to revolutionize the hospital’s paper-based clinical documentation process. Under a multi-year licensing agreement, GW Hospital will license Salar’s TeamNotes™ and TeamQuery™ for its clinicians -- attending physicians, residents, interns, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and medical students -- for all hospital inpatient admissions, excluding labor and delivery.

Prior to TeamNotes, these clinicians documented their patient encounters on paper or used an electronic system that was not interfaced with any of the hospital’s current information systems, and only captured part of the necessary documentation. By deploying Salar’s suite of innovative clinical documentation and concurrent review tools, GW Hospital not only empowers its users to capture their notes electronically, but enables them to adhere to industry-wide and CMS clinical documentation standards.

“As a leading academic medical center with a standard clinical data repository and medical record system, we were missing (as many others still are) a physician documentation tool that worked with our systems, one that could interface with our existing infrastructure and eliminate our reliance upon paper,” says Gretchen Tegethoff, MSIST CIO/Director, Information Technology, GW Hospital. “By overlaying TeamNotes with our existing IT systems we have established a completely seamless, paperless, user-friendly experience that works with every type of documentation, keeps our doctors happy and, as important, keeps our records in compliance,” she says.

“And while the project is just a few months old, what’s impressive about Salar is we already see great change internally and believe this success is due to one strategic innovation -- physician support,” Tegethoff continues. “By engaging our physicians in the project from the start, we not only received their clinical input and advice on how to do things best, but also their buy-in to support the project -- both key elements to drive physician change and maintain the delivery of high-quality clinical care,” concludes Tegethoff.

“We are thrilled to have GW Hospital join our list of the leading academic medical centers now benefiting from Salar solutions,” says Salar President Todd Johnson. “Given GW Hospital leadership, commitment, and interest in forging change to enhance efficiency and to reduce costs, we expect overwhelmingly positive results for our new partner,” he concludes.
